Saronic Gulf
Discover the Saronic’s best in one week: historic temples, crystal anchorages, iconic car-free Hydra evenings, and elegant Spetses nights. Sail short, scenic legs, swim in sheltered cove,s and dine ashore in traditional tavernas — a perfect mix of relaxation and discovery.
Day 1
Embark & sail to Aegina (half-day)
Plan: Board in Athens/Alimos in the morning; short cruise to Aegina.
Why go: Aegina is a lively first stop — great waterfront tavernas, pistachio shops, and the archaeological gem Temple of Aphaia.
On arrival: Tie up in Aegina town marina or long-side the quay, stroll the promenade, try fresh seafood and pistachio treats.
Practical: Short hop from Athens (common first day for Saronic itineraries).
Plan: Sail across to Poros (short day sail).
Why go: Poros has a charming seafront and the iconic Clock Tower — climb for the sunset view over the harbour.
On arrival: Moor in Poros harbour or take a line ashore; wander the narrow streets, café hop, and visit local beaches.
Practical: Easy berthing and a friendly, compact town ideal for provisioning.
Day 2
Aegina → Poros (morning sail / afternoon exploring)
Day 3
Poros → Hydra (easy longer leg or break at small anchorages)
Plan: Head to Hydra — plan for an early departure to arrive mid-day.
Why go: Hydra’s car-free town, stone mansions, and bohemian vibe make it one of the most atmospheric Saronic stops. Walk up to the Profitis Ilias viewpoint/monastery for expansive vistas.
On arrival: Moor at the main harbour (or pick up a buoy); evening stroll along the waterfront and dinner in a seaside taverna.
Practical: No cars on the island — transfer by foot/donkey/taxi boat only. Book harbour spots in high season.
Plan: Short hop to Spetses; arrive in time to explore the old port.
Why go: Spetses blends elegant mansions, horse-drawn carriages, and a lively waterfront — perfect for an island evening.
On arrival: Walk or bike the seaside roads, visit the historic district, and enjoy late-night cafés.
Practical: Spetses has good visitor facilities and mooring options close to town.
Day 4
Hydra → Spetses (coastal cruising and island nightlife)
Day 5
Spetses → Dokos → Porto Heli (swim stop + bay night)
Plan: Early departure for a scenic swim/anchor at Dokos, then continue to Porto Heli for the night.
Why stop at Dokos: Dokos is an uninhabited island with sheltered anchorages and crystal swimming spots — a favorite mid-week quiet bay.
Porto Heli: Spend the evening in Porto Heli — a large, yacht-friendly port with many services and easy access to mainland sights.
Practical: Dokos anchorages generally allow anchors/lines ashore — check local conditions and Navily/guide notes before dropping the hook.
Plan: Sail to Palaia Epidavros (or nearby Ermioni / Hermioni) for a mix of archaeology and relaxed shoreside dining.
Why go: Palaia Epidavros offers a superb ancient theatre and a picturesque harbour — ideal for a cultural afternoon.
On arrival: Visit the amphitheatre (if time), wander the village, and enjoy a farewell group dinner ashore.
Practical: Palaia Epidavros anchorages are sheltered with sand seabeds — popular in summer, so arrive early.
Day 6
Porto Heli → Palaia (Ancient) Epidavros / Hermioni (culture & calm)
Day 7
Return to Athens
Short sail back to Alimos Marina, disembarkation on Saturday morning, the latest by 09:00 AM.
Wrap up: Refueling, equipment check, and goodbyes — hand over the yacht and departure from the marina.
Quick practical tips
-
Distances & daily legs: This route is designed as short, comfortable hops (most days under ~25 NM) suitable for relaxed cruising or flotillas.
-
Mooring & anchor: Popular ports (Aegina, Poros, Hydra, Spetses, Porto Heli) have visitor berths; Dokos and Palaia Epidavros are classic anchorages (check Navily/guide notes).
-
When to go: High season (July–August) is lively — May–June and September offer milder crowds and great winds for sailing.
-
Local highlights: Try Aegina pistachios, climb Poros clock tower, wander Hydra’s car-free quay, and swim off Dokos’ pristine coves.
-
Culture note: Add Palaia Epidavros if your group wants an archaeological stop — the ancient theatre is worth the visit.
